Cortina d’Ampezzo sits almost theatrically in the middle of the Dolomites, surrounded on every side by some of the range’s most dramatic peaks. From above town, the scale of the setting becomes clear: neighborhoods spread across brilliant green slopes while an enormous wall of limestone rises behind them. Cortina may be famous as a destination, but from here, it’s obvious the mountains are still the main attraction.
