At 9,744 feet above sea level, the summit of Schilthorn offers a perspective that almost stops making sense. From here, the great peaks of the Swiss Alps no longer tower overhead—they stretch across the horizon, seemingly at eye level.
Snow still clings to the ridges while green slopes emerge thousands of feet below. Trails cut across exposed mountainsides, clouds drift through the surrounding peaks, and entire towns have disappeared somewhere beneath the landscape.
This is Schilthorn, nearly two miles above sea level, where distance becomes difficult to judge, scale becomes almost impossible to comprehend, and everything human suddenly seems very, very small.
Sometimes gaining perspective is simply a matter of gaining altitude.
