Villa del Balbianello rises from the wooded Lavedo peninsula into Lake Como, its terraced gardens and 18th-century villa appearing almost inseparable from the landscape. Originally developed by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it later became the home of explorer Guido Monzino before being entrusted to Italy’s FAI. Its almost cinematic setting has quite literally become one — appearing in both Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and the James Bond film Casino Royale
