Rising above Vaduz, the Cathedral of St. Florin was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style, its tall stone spire making it one of the capital’s most recognizable landmarks.
At the base of the church, beneath the broad staircase, are two striking sculptural groups set into arched niches. They depict biblical scenes associated with Christ’s Passion — dark, almost somber figures sheltered beneath the entrance while the cathedral rises dramatically above them. The placement gives them an unusual weight: before climbing toward the doors of the church, the visitor encounters images of suffering and devotion carved into the foundation itself.
Against the heavy Liechtenstein sky, the stone, sculpture and soaring spire give the cathedral a presence far greater than its physical size.
