Tucked into a small courtyard in Verona stands Giulietta — Shakespeare’s Juliet — forever waiting beneath the balcony of a love story that never actually happened here. The character was fictional, the famous balcony was added centuries later, and yet people have transformed this place into something strangely real. They come from around the world to leave letters, ask for advice, make promises and touch the bronze statue for luck in love. Fiction somehow became tradition, and tradition became part of Verona itself.
