Grindelwald spreads across the green slopes beneath the immense north face of the Eiger, one of the most recognizable mountains in the Swiss Alps. Chalets, farms and roads look almost miniature beneath it, giving the photograph its extraordinary sense of scale. Here, the mountain isn’t somewhere off on the horizon — it feels like part of the town itself.
