Mountains usually own the horizon. Here, they get a second one.

Snow-covered peaks rise sharply above the trees, then return in the water below—softened by ripples, broken by light, but still unmistakable. Between the two sits a narrow band of forest, almost as though the landscape needed a dividing line between the original and its reflection.

For a moment, the lake doesn’t compete with the mountains.

It simply gives them twice the room.
